You’ve decided to try meditation but how long should you meditate to feel the effects?
When Adel and I began meditating, this was one of our biggest questions. How long do I need to sit here and how often?
In an ideal world, we’d be immersing ourselves into hours of daily monk-like dedication to the cause - but life doesn’t allow that kind of thing and I’m far too impatient! What we do know from our practice is that 1 SESSION of 10 minutes often brings us relief from stress and anxiety of the day but this isn’t always the case.
It’s different for every person but research reviewed by Headspace has shown that 10-20 minutes of meditation, practised 3 times per week can bring many benefits. THE KEY = consistent and regular. It’s often the toughest nut to crack. Especially when it involves sitting still on a regular basis…
It’s funny to think that meditation is free and involves ‘doing nothing’ but it can be so hard to commit to. What we do know is that if you can keep it in your routine, it can become priceless for your well-being.
